Once upon a time...

I married John in December of 2005. Lets make that our starting point of this mini biography for this blog of home and life making. [insert invite and wedding pictures here] I came from a life of art and music and was raised in a large, homeschooled, uber religious, minorly fanatic family. John came from a life of golf courses, tennis, cars and missionary work and was raised in a small, middle class, buisness owning, hardworking, church-going family. By some miracle we make a sweet and comfortably dysfunctional kind of couple. Both conversationalists at heart... we are a couple that debunks the theory of kids ruining marriages and of conversations and sex ending after the first year. Here is the secret: we never thought it would be easy... ours is a vow of endurance. Sounds simple...  it's so much more than that. But at the core of this relationship is the understanding that there will be struggle and that the greatest expression of love to each other is to never give up... but to let all of those challenges drive us together.  As I write this we are working on year eight of being partners and it's been much more good than bad. And through all of it I have been so, so glad to have John here to help me through every day.... even if sometimes I've seen him as the obstacle and not the one helping me around it. ;) [insert pictures of us here]

August 2006 was a huge milestone: I became a mama! Silas was, is and ever will be my pride and joy. Robust and clever from the first I feel like the luckiest girl alive that he would choose me and John for parents. [insert newborn, two years old and current pictures of silas here] Soon after Silas was born we moved to Blacksburg, VA for John to study turfgrass management and agriculture at Virginia Tech. He started classes the day a felon escaped and ran rampant with a gun, shooting civilians and a police officer. Turned out to be more foreshadowing than a singular event.
